Awareness Campaign “Tataluga – Mém di Omali”
Raising awareness and education are masterpieces to promote human behavior change in São Tomé.
The awareness campaign “Tataluga – Mém di Omali” (Sea Turtle, the mother of the sea) has been a powerful education and awareness weapon in São Tomé since 2016. Through different awareness and environmental education activities studied in detail, has been possible to significantly increase the awareness levels and the civil society involvement on sea turtle conservation every year. The results show a significant increase of the knowledge on sea turtles conservation, its ecologic and socioeconomic value and the benefits of its conservation of local population. Also, this campaign has strengthened the proximity and trust ties between local communities and the members of Programa Tatô.
